WEDNESDAY JUNE 1

Angeline

Anytime someone speaks out and against how they were portrayed in a new TV series or movie, it makes you want to watch it even more. It happened most recently when Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson lambasted the presentation of the Los Angeles Lakers in HBO’s “Winning Time,” and this is the case for “Angelyne” as well. Emmy Rossum from “Shameless” plays the title character, a Los Angeles billboard icon who some regard as being the original influencer before influencing was even a thing. This Peacock series, which will air on Showcase in Canada, is based on a 2017 Hollywood Reporter investigation which revealed Angelyne’s real name and her parents’ background as Holocaust survivors. There are reports that the title character initially authorized the depiction but has since renounced how she was presented in the series.
